Nipple areolar reconstruction may be performed utilizing a variety of techniques. The appropriate technique is determined by a number of factors including the type of breast reconstruction being performed as well as the size and appearance of the areola and nipple on the opposite breast. The timing of the nipple areolar reconstruction also varies from patient to patient. Pigment may be added to the areolar reconstruction utilizing a medical tattoo device which significantly improves the cosmetic result.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING SURGERY
In general, this procedure requires around two hours to complete. Usually the patient is put under by general anesthesia so that they will be completely asleep during the operation. There are a several different incision options for breast augmentation surgery. Depending on the implant type and the degree of enlargement, Dr. Talebzadeh will determine the best place to make the required incisions to create pockets for the implants. The various incision locations include:
- Near the breast crease
- To correct breast asymmetry
- In the underarm
Once the incisions are made on the chosen location, pockets are created behind the breast tissue or beneath the pectoral muscle to hold the implants. After the pockets are created, the breast implants are positioned and the incisions are closed. This is done with non-removable sutures in the breast tissue and sutures on the skin, and then held together by surgical tape and bandages.
