EAR SURGERY IS POPULAR AMONG CHILDREN

Otoplasty procedure is usually performed on children between the ages of 4 to 14. That is because some children are born with protruding ears, abnormally large ears, or are born with a deformity where the ear did not fully form. When a child reaches the age of four, their eyes are fully developed and having the procedure done early is at a great advantage because:

ABOUT OTOPLASTY PROCEDURE

An incision is made in the natural fold of the ear; all incisions are made in inconspicuous areas to minimize the appearance of scars. Dr. Talebzadeh will then remove the excess cartilage and skin and close the incision. The procedure may take a few hours, however most patients are able to go home the same day. Otoplasty procedure largely depends on the necessary corrections needed and the age of the patient, incision placement will be discussed during your consultation in our San Diego/Chula Vista office.

RECOVERING

After the procedure, the head is wrapped in surgical bandages to protect and maintain the new position of the ears. Bandages will be replaced with new ones during your first post-op appointment. For younger patients, special care must be given for the first few weeks to protect the ears. Adult patients can typically return to day-to-day activities within three days after surgery. Most patients will experience temporary headaches, swelling, and discomfort but proper medications will help relieve some of the discomfort.
