The Different Types of Facelifts

Are you looking to rejuvenate your face and turn back the hands of time just a bit? Fret no more; there are many cosmetic procedures available across the nation to help you reclaim your youth. Facelift surgery, or rhytidectomy, improves the visible signs of aging on a person’s face. This procedure can either be performed alone or in conjunction with another procedure like a forehead lift. Before considering a San Diego/Chula Vista facelift, you should set realistic goals and determine what you hope to achieve from the surgery. There are several different types of facelifts available depending on the extent of your facial situation: mid facelift, lower facelift, and mini facelift.

Mid Facelift

Mid facelift surgery aims to restore youth and beauty to an individual’s lower eyelids, nose, corners of the mouth, and cheeks. As we age, our skin starts to wrinkle and sag. Mid facelift surgery is best for individuals who find that their cheeks have started sagging. This cosmetic procedure is designed to tighten the underlying muscle tissues in the cheeks and smoothing it out. Deep marionette lines and nasolabial folds are also corrected with this cosmetic procedure.

Lower Facelift

Lower facelift surgery corrects the visible signs of aging on the bottom third of your face. This procedure aims to correct jowls and loose skin on the neck. “Lifting” is achieved by removing excess skin and eliminating creases on the face. As we age, our skin loses elasticity and the skin on the bottom third of our face (e.g. chin, neck, etc) starts to sag as the result of time and gravity. Jowls can make us feel extremely self-conscious and old. Lower facelift surgery can help us look and feel better by removing and smoothing lax skin on the lower face and neck, deep creases, and lifting the corners of the mouth.

Mini Facelift

Mini facelift surgery is designed to enhance the key areas of your face by reducing minor sagging in the cheeks and jaw line. This procedure is also known as a “weekend facelift” because the procedure is relatively quick and recovery period is short—as opposed to a standard facelift. This plastic surgery in San Diego/Chula Vista procedure is performed with an endoscope that is inserted into small incisions made in your skin. Mini facelift surgery is perfect for individuals who find themselves aging prematurely and do not want to undergo the traditional facelift surgery.

Traditionally, a full facelift targets an individual’s entire face and neck to reduce facial wrinkles and lift saggy skin on the cheeks and chin. Mid facelift, lower facelift, and a mini facelift targets a specific region of an individual’s face. These procedures can be performed alone or together. If you feel that your face needs a little “lifting” and rejuvenation, consult your local plastic surgeon.
