A double chin isn’t usually an indication of ill health, but it can harm your self-esteem and social interactions. Fortunately, reducing or even eliminating your double chin is within reach thanks to Kybella.
Kybella
A double chin sometimes referred to as submental fullness or a “swallowtail,” occurs when underlying fat covers the front of the neck right beneath the lower jaw. This can give the appearance of having one to two extra chins and is usually more evident as you age, gain or lose weight, take certain drugs, or are genetically predisposed. Kybella® (pronounced KY-BELL-uh) is the first and only FDA-approved injectable procedure that permanently reduces the appearance of a double chin.
Kybella may be right for you if:
- Submental fullness is bothering you at a moderate to severe level
- Because of your submental fullness, you feel self-conscious about your profile.
- You’d like an alternative to liposuction or surgical methods for a more slender appearance
- You desire a more sculpted appearance without surgery or liposuction
How does Kybella work?
It is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a natural chemical in the body, which helps break down and absorb fat from food. Using Kybella, you can reduce the amount of fat under your chin by destroying the fat cells. These cells can no longer store or acquire fat after they have been destroyed.
The injection of Kybella does not require anesthesia, however, your doctor may choose to numb the area first with a topical anesthetic before administering the medication.
Our team will then divide the area under your chin into sections and will inject Kybella into each section. While you may experience some stinging with each injection, most patients tolerate it well.
What will my results be like with Kybella?
Results can be visible in as little as two to four weeks after each treatment. Six sessions, at least one month apart may be necessary for your recovery. KYBELLA® does not need to be reapplied once the desired effects have been achieved.
With a more defined jawline and a smaller, more defined chin, patients will look more attractive and confident.
How many treatments will I need with Kybella?
Since each patient’s chin profile and level of submental fat are unique, your doctor will assess the number of treatments necessary for you based on your specific case and treatment objectives.
At each appointment, your doctor will administer a series of injections under the chin. The amount of treatments you’ll require is determined by your goals and the findings of your doctor. A minimum of one month must elapse between each of the possible six treatments. Up to 50 injection sites are made in the target area beneath the chin during each therapy session.
What are the side effects of Kybella?
One of Kybella’s most appealing features is that it has no known negative effects. Some individuals report slight bruising and redness at the injection site, although these symptoms often fade within a few days. While serious complications are rare, they do exist.
A patient’s results will vary, but they should be able to notice maximal improvement within four weeks of treatment. Contact Eastlake Cosmetic Surgery today if you’re interested in learning more about Kybella!
